Trade schools are also called as Vo-tech or vocational technical schools. It does not form a cheaper option when compared to the four year institutes or colleges. It forms the option with least time spent or shortest route on formal education course; it will be a fast track, if we try to reach our career goal or destination. Students who attend the trade school courses still need financial support or assistance to help them pay for it. Nearly 10000 private vocational institutes are present in the nation. The admission requirements for the institutes vary drastically, semester/quarterly tuition fees ranges from $500-$10,000 or even more based on the course nature and its length. Public and privat
e loans always form the options for many, but we have grants and loans offered which are non-repayable funds to support the students.
Benefits of Trade School Certificates:
Certificates offered by the trade schools are called as diplomas or associate degrees, although we can receive the qualifications credits in order to become licensed professional in our field. Most of the trade school offers a two year course programs or one year certification program or six to nine months technical programs.
Grants:
Students interested to attend the trade school courses will be eligible to receive several scholarships and grants. The students who attend the trade school courses can become electricians, mechanics, lab technicians, nursing, carpenters, chefs or cooks, cosmetologists, construction workers or court reporters. They are also eligible to become interior decorators, fashion designers, game technicians, graphic designers, accountants, game designers, writers and secretaries, various other job opportunities are also available for the students. The common funding sources for the trade schools generally include private scholarship programs, trade and professional organization and federal financial aid.
Private Scholarship Funds:
Trade schools offer various private scholarship fund programs to the students enrolling in the school. Sallie Mae Funds offer Unmet Need Scholarships to the students at any of the accredited post-secondary schools who have a family income of about $30,000 or even less and were given a financial package which falls over $1000 short of the actual financial needs. The students who enroll in the two year trade programs will be offered scholarships or grants by the Coca-Cola Scholar Foundation.
Trade or Professional Organizations:
Students who are interested to pursue an explicit course trade are eligible to get grants or scholarships from the organizations dedicated to trade. For example, Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractor Educational Foundation will award about two $2,500 scholarship every year to the students who are enrolled in the two year trade program or community college which is accredited. The students enrolling in the high school technical course in automotive field is offered with scholarships or grants by the Automotive Service Council of California. Minority students or the females are eligible for receiving the additional scholarships.
Federal Aid:
Students who are planning to attend the trade schools are eligible for same federal financial support as the students planning to enroll any of the other post secondary schools like university or colleges. To receive the federal financial aid, the students should complete and submit Free Application of Federal Student Aid or FAFSA which is available on federal government student aid website. Based on the student’s financial needs, the grants are awarded by the organizations. Based on the personal circumstances and financial needs, the students are given one or more federal grants and it includes Academic Competitiveness grant, Federal Pell grant, Iraq and Afghanistan Service grant, Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education grant, National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent grant and Federal Supplement Educational Opportunity grant.
