1. AFPE Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in the Pharmaceutical Sciences
Overview: This opportunity for financial aid is offered by the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AMPE). Each year, four new and forty-four renewable Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Awards are granted to qualified applicants.
Qualified Applicants: Qualified applicants for this funding opportunity must possess at least the following: three semesters of graduate-level education through a pharmacy school, United States citizenship, and/or permanent residency in the United States.
Funding Amount: New Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Awards provide pharmacy students with $11,000 in funds, and renewable Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Awards provide pharmacy students with $6,500 in funds.
2. J.C. and Rheba Cobb Memorial Scholarship
Overview: This funding opportunity is provided by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). The biggest advantage of this scholarship is that it is awarded to both pharmacy technician students and doctorate-level pharmacy students.
Qualified Applicants: Qualified applicants for this funding opportunity must obtain the following prerequisites: good academic standing, evidence of involvement in extracurricular activities, and an essay that demonstrates interest in government-related activities.
Funding Amount: The J.C. and Rheba Cobb Memorial Scholarship is awarded directly to qualified applicants in the amount of $1,000.
3. Minority Pre-Doctoral Fellowship
Overview: This funding opportunity is offered by the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE). Per year, approximately five Minority Pre-Doctoral Fellowships are offered to qualified applicants.
Qualified Applicants: Pharmacy students who desire to obtain a Minority Pre-Doctoral Fellowship must possess the following: African American, Black, Latino, or Hispanic descent; three semesters of graduate-level education in the field of pharmacy; United States citizenship or residency; and three letters of recommendation.
Funding Amount: Minority Pre-Doctoral Fellowships provide pharmacy students with up to $6,500, which can be used for tuition, book, fee, and travel costs.
4. APhA Foundation Student Pharmacist Scholarship Program
Overview: This funding opportunity is offered through the American Pharmacists Association Foundation. Each year, roughly ten APhA Foundation Student Pharmacist Scholarships are awarded to students who wish to become pharmacy technicians.
Qualified Applicants: Qualified applicants for this funding opportunity must possess current enrollment in a pharmacy program, a minimum GPA of 2.75, and membership with their local APhA group.
Funding Amount: APhA Foundation Student Pharmacist Scholarships are rewarded to qualified applicants in the amount of $1,000.
5. Pharmacy Faculty Development Fellowship in Geriatric Pharmacy
Overview: This pharmacy school grant opportunity is granted through the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE). Only one Pharmacy Faculty Development Fellowship in Geriatric Pharmacy is awarded per year.
Qualified Applicants: The Pharmacy Faculty Development Fellowship in Geriatric Pharmacy is highly selective, and qualified applicants for it must possess at least a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in pharmacy, United States citizenship or residency, and acceptance into a geriatric-specific training program for pharmacy.
Funding Amount: The Pharmacy Faculty Development Fellowship in Geriatric Pharmacy rewards one applicant per year with $25,000. This $25,000 it matched by the accepted applicant’s pharmacy school.
Federal and State Pharmacy School Grants
Both the Federal and State governments offer funding options to students; Federal funding is consistent across the nation, while State funding will vary according to your state and its financial well being, or its ability to sustain robust funding for students of its post secondary schools.
In most cases, these pharmacy school grants come in the form of need-based grants, or grants distributed on the basis of financial need (as determined by the income disclosure element of your application). The most well known of these is the Federal Pell Grant.
States may also implement certain programs to provide financial incentive to students to enter a field for which there is great need of trained professionals – like nursing for instance.
